2015 Silverado - Trailer Brake Controller

I am getting the GM recommended brake controller installed this morning at my dealer. I was told it is up to me where to locate the unit. Any advice?

Since you don't have the Integrated Controller you should have a cubby hole in the section of your dash above the 4WD selector. Maybe they can fit it in there?

This would be ideal, but I don't think the cubby would be wide enough.

I mounted mine using the existing bolt under the dash right next to the emergency brake. It's easy to see while driving and I haven'y hit my shin on it yet. You have to be a little more cautious when using the e-brake though.

Thanks. I'll check this out.

Not going to be easy or cost effective to add the OE trailer brake controller. Recommend a Tekonsha P3 controller instead. Here is a link showing where another member mounted his:

Hi everyone,

I have a Silverado 1500. I am buying a bass boat soon and need advice on a trailer brake controller. I have the 6 and 4 pin hook ups.

I remember when looking for trucks I saw some had it and some didn't. It wasn't a big concern of mine then, but now I am going to need it. What are my options for adding one now? It easy or should I get it done at a shop?

That picture from lgetz is the install in my truck... I really like it there although another member called it "hideous".

If you look at this thread: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/178553-retrofitting-the-factory-integrated-brake-controler/page-2?hl=p3+install&do=findComment&comment=1726720

you will find the pictures of what I had to do to the bezel to make it fit (post #27).

I've found that the orange display color and lowest brightness setting of the P3 are adequate to all but eliminate the reflection in the side glass at night. I had found that to be the only detractor from mounting it where I did.

You'll also see that I purchased a "spare" bezel from the dealer to do this... it was cheap insurance against trade-in value!

You can also find in that thread where another member (BlueDenali) had the bezel custom fitted to the P3 in the same location (post #25). I don't know if even he knows what they had to do behind the bezel on his... but I didn't have to do anything but the bezel mods on mine.

There are several threads here that all come to the same conclusion... the OE IBC cannot be retrofit into non-IBC vehicles (unless you want to spend cubic dollars - and as I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I'd be happy to help you spend your money more wisely)!

Bobber IMO you did a heck of a job with the brake controller install. Well placed and most important easy to reach while driving. No chance of banging your knees or legs while getting in or out.

If/when I install a controller it will be in that same spot.

To OP I'm inline behind Bobber if you wish to throw money our way.?
