2006 2500hd ac problems

2006 chevy 2500hd

6.0l gas

 

Has working ac. But the relay is constantly clicking. I have to pull the relay for the ac to shut off. If we put the relay in the ac works great for the first 20 mins until everything ices right over. Then almost nothing for air coming out of the vents until we pull the relay to shut the system down.

It could be a bad pressure switch on the dryer. If the sensor doesn't trip off, the compressor will run constantly causing the evaporator to ice over thus blocking air flow through it. If it is the pressure switch they're inexpensive and easy to replace. (you don't have to drain the system, they just screw on and screw off).

 

If you put a pressure gauge on the low pressure port, your should see the compressor come on at ~42-45 psi or higher, then shut off the compressor when the pressure is down to around 25 psi. Once running it cycles between 25-45 psi.

Pulling the ac relay. If I don't it just runs constantly. Just recharged it while troubleshooting. I'll double check the charge. But there is no on and off to see it's either always on (relay in) or off (relay out)

Sounds like a bad pressure switch. The pressure switch is the on and off for the compressor. As well as the ac. Button in the cab.
