'17 Sierra / Nittos / 1st Post

Hi all,

Been reading awhile and thought I'd finally make a post. (Well, 2nd actually, just posted a funny story about my trailer hitch to the towing forum)

Purchased my 2017 Sierra SLT at the end of April, and made a few improvements so far after reading LOTS here.

Stock details:
2017 Sierra SLT - Summit White
5.3L - 6 speed
3.42 Gear
20" Aluminum Wheels
Premium Package for the Bose sound, leather, and sunroof
2WD (Flame retardant suit is ready - Prev. vehicle was a 2wd 4runner , it got stuck once in 10 years, and the 4wd Silverado that came to pull me out also got stuck in the wet grass, had to resort to the tractor to get both out - Figured I would just be using the truck for Lowe's runs, towing boat, hauling yard supplies, etc)

Weathertec floor mats (Two thumbs up for these, love 'em)

Modifications:
- 2" RC level kit
- 275/60/R20 Nitto Terra Grappler G2's (32.99" x 10.98") (Running around 40psi, thoughts?)
- BW Tow & Stow 6" adjustable drop hitch with the 3 rotating balls for towing
- Replaced the drop-in bedliner with a spray on LineX and added a bed mat to keep furniture/etc from scratching

Future planned Mods:
- 35 tint on front window with 70 tint on the windshield
-I'd like to add the factory style tow mirrors at some point (Towing a 19.6" center console boat with a T-Top)

*I wish there was a more noticeable difference, I wanted to go with bigger tires (285s) but the shop said that was the largest I could go without having any rubbing issues

Let me know any thoughts, ideas, etc. - Enjoyed reading everything here so far.

I'll leave you with a funny story -
My cousin just bought a '17 Ford King Ranch a few weeks after I purchased the Sierra. He got the 4x4 with the Tow mirrors, etc. Nice truck
-We're at the beach and I'm getting relentless grief for not getting the 4x4 (If I had to do it again I probably would go 4x4). He keeps asking me if I need him to come tow my boat for me, since I don't have 4wd...now, it's worth noting that he doesn't own anything with a hitch attached to it.

Now, he keeps going on about his towing capacity, etc etc and telling us how great his Ford would tow. So after about the 4th time that he says "You sure you don't need me to go pick up the boat tomorrow and tow it for you?", I kindly respond with "Yea actually that would be great. You have a trailer hitch for your truck right?"
.....A look of confusion hits his face and he says "Well..no but I could borrow yours"

Welcome to the organization PLG nice truck! Looks good as is and your current mods plus future ones seem functional and tasteful.

Wouldn't worry too much about not buying 4wd unless you go off the beaten path 2-3+ times a week. Your tires will help a bunch in that respect.

Truck will be fine towing unless you plan to tow 9500+ pounds in which case buy a 2500HD.

Only mod I would consider is deleting the stock muffler and flapper valve and putting on a Flowmaster 53071 or Magnaflow 12589 in place. Little/no drone or "V4 chop and sounds like a V8 should at startup or when gunning it.

Doubt I'll build it up too much more, other than a window tint and maybe some tow mirrors. So not sure if it qualifies as a "True" build.

Wherever you see fit is fine with me.

Not sure where your cousin is going with his comments, you don't need 4wd to pull a boat (we did that at the limits of a few vehicles for years and only had 1 issue (we weren't smart that time). Sounds like he is one of the poseurs I mention below.

Glad you bought what you actually use, so many people buy 4wd for the image and try to justify it by saying they will get resale back or would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it which it stupid and is even more stupid down south. They lose money anyways on resale and a tow is maybe $100-200 depending on the situation (highly doubt any of those guys go far enough to need a $1,000 recovery) so good on you. Save money and have good looks (most those same guys probably have no idea how to tell if it is 4wd just by looking at it or heck even looking under it). Truck looks great!
