2014+ DRL Removal

So I know this has been discussed many times, but in my research the only real viable options I found was to buy the harness from GEN5DIY at about $150 bucks. Well I did some foot work of my own and came up with a way to turn them off permanently or to set up a pair of after markets and not use the low beam headlamp. The way I did it does require you to cut a wire on the harness, unless you want to buy all the parts to make it PNP.

So on both sides for the trucks that do not have a wire in the G place on the harness the Low beam lead and the DRL are one in the same. This wire, which is yellow on the 2014's gets cut with enough room left on both sides to add terminals to it.

The side from the BCM, the power side, gets connected to post 30 of a SPDT relay

The headlight side of the wire gets connected to post 87

Post 85 or 86 gets connected to the black ground wire on the headlight harness

The other post, 86 or 85 gets tapped into the park lamp wire on each side. The drivers side is Violet with Grey runner and should be in slot E. The passenger side should be Grey with brown runner and also in slot E.

If you are not connecting after market DRL's you can stop now. You can also use a SPST relay. this way when the truck turns on and calls for the DRL to be on there is no input to the truck headlight. When the BCM calls for headlights, the park lamps also turn on and this actuates the relay and allows the power to go to the lamp. When you select just park lamps the BCM is not calling for DRL or Low beam, so the low beam light stays off regardless because there is no power on the wire.

If you are using after market DRL's you connect the DRL power wire to post 87a of the SPDT relay. This will power the DRL when the BCM calls for DRL's. If you want the DRL's to be on even when the headlights are on you just install a diode between the DRL and the low beam wire and it will be on anytime the low beam light is on as well.

I tested this briefly in my truck today and so far so good, I'll post some pics when I do some more testing tomorrow.
