Largest Tire Size Possible on Factory 17's??

Recommended Posts

My '15 2500HD has the factory aluminum 17's on it, but the stock 265/70/17 (optional Bridgestone Duravis) are too small in my opinion.

I've looked all around this forum, but it seems everyone is either running 20's or 18's. Down the road the polished 18's will go on, but for now... I like the 17's.

Truck is a Double Cab/Standard Bed Z71... not sure if that makes a difference with ride height/rake compared to other trucks.

I don't want to lift or level, I already have trouble fitting in my garage!

Yep, as stated, even a 285/70/17 will look better than those stockers.....but my vote would be for the 285/75/17. I had the dealer switch over to that size before I even drove the truck off the lot, haha.

Did you crank keys? Rubbing issues? I am staying stock wheels and no level myself.

Nope. I drove the first 5000 miles with everything completely stock (except for the tires). I never heard anything rub, even with the GM mudflaps. That being said, I bought the truck after hunting season...and that's about the only time I do any "off-roading" to speak of. Someone with a more adventurous driving style may have been able to get them to touch the fender liner, but I didn't. There was actually more room than I expected. I thought I might have to crank the bars a few turns before I drove it home, but that wasn't the case. There are pics in my build thread if you want to see how it looked before I changed the wheels and cranked the bars.

Thank you sir. Nice set up

No problem! And, thank you!

Edit: We'd also like to see some pictures when you get your new tires installed!

What tires did you have the dealer install? I've always had good luck with Bridgestone on my previous vehicles... but then again, I came from driving a 1995 Caprice and 2012 WRX to my new truck. So I'm not sure what the best brands are for 3/4 ton trucks...

Not sure if you were asking me, but I'll respond anyway, haha. I decided on Falken Wildpeak AT3W's for my new HD.

Basically, I'd recommend a good all-terrain tire from a known manufacturer, in a load range E, with a mileage warranty. Examples off the top of my head would be Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Cooper Discoverer AT3, Nitto Terra Grappler G2, Yokohama Geolander G015, and Toyo Open Country AT2.

Thank you, I appreciate the answer! Like I said, I come from driving a totally different type of vehicle so tires for an HD truck I have zero idea about.

No problem! And if you let us know your rim size and ride height (stock, leveled, lifted, etc.), we can give you a few options on tire sizes too.
