Android Auto and Chevy Mylink

I'm new to this Android Auto but i think its exactly what i want vs changing a head unit.

I have a 2015 with the 8" screen. There is no projection button (not sure if 2016 or 2017 only has it).

I saw an oem thing were you pay 1000.00 just to turn the 8" into free gps, im guessing more if you want to get the projection app also. Why cant you just send in your io6 box and have it reformatted, why do you have to buy another io6 box.

Anyone informed on this or has done this upgrade. At this point a pioneer head unit is looking like better option or just using a phone or tablet on dash for gps and android auto.

Info much appreciated. Im trying to get my stereo upgraded so i want to make sure I have decided if buying a head unit or keeping factory.

thanks

You need an HMI 2.5 module. The HMI 2.0 you have just can't be reprogrammed to work. Cheapest option I've had customers doing is buying a used one on eBay and sending it to digital dash solutions. They'll do it for like $150. But it has to be an HMI 2.5 module. Also, you need to contact them with the part number before sending it there. You'll also need to buy a navigation antenna. They are cheap.

I am very interested in this topic, but I don't follow all of the "lingo".

So basically I have to buy a new "module" of some sort through Ebay then send it to a company to flash new software onto for $150?

What item to I search for on ebay?

I have a 2015 Silverado 4x4 with the 8" screen.

P.S. I don't want/need any sort of GPS, I simply want Android Auto to work so I can use Google Maps.

I went to ebay, saw digital dash solutions was selling the 2.5 nav module with car play & android auto for $787 with current maps. Seems like a lot of money for such a little convenience.

Believe me, they are the cheapest I can find. I looked for many months. Other alternatives out there think they have cornered the market on this type of thing and charge even more!

If you have the 8" screen then you don't. Contact digital dash solutions with the part number to confirm fitment.

My pickup came with Factory Navigation with Android Auto/Apple Car Play so I did not purchase that from them.  However, I have purchased other stuff from them, their Bluray/DVD in-dash kit with their custom HMI programming, parts for the OEM RSE system (I varied from their RSE kit in order to add some additional things), HDMI Input and their 3rd brake lamp camera.  Anthony and John are great guys and know their stuff.  Their customer service is top notch.  Let them know what you want and they'll set you up with what you need.  Anthony's cell number is on their YouTube videos as that is the best way to contact them.  They are also a vendor on here.  I've had the opportunity to swing by their shop in the Denver area while I was passing through a couple times and would recommend them to anyone.

Thanks bud, I have contacted Anthony and he is going to send me some info on the install and what it takes to see if my expertise will be enough to install it on my own. lol
