k1500chevy97 Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Well the topic title says it all Got it about 630 this morning . Was almost done loading the truck when i got on the radio to my tractor driver right beside me and told him i thought i was full and let me go he replied with well just finish this row and ill let cha go (there was another truck running behind me towards the end wondering what the hell we were doing if we get full in the middle of a row we just stop the tractor let the loaded truck go then bring in the empty truck and start again ) I knew my load appeared heavy when tarpping it . Got around the block at the warehouse just about to turn down the street where the scales are and seen the state patrol commercial vehicle enforcment van sitting there and thought to myself " [filtered language] " (if i would have not have left my lunch at home i could have been there 10 min earlier and he probally would not have been there yet) so i pulled up where he directed me to and then wanted to see my license and the trucks registration and insurance papers . Well after he got done checking all the papers he then proceeded to instept the truck crawled underneath it and checked over the lights and everything had me put the parking brake on anbd try to pull forward and all that good stuff . Here comes the only part that was wrong , he then gets out his little portable scales well these things are like an inch and a half to 2 inches thick he asks me to drive up on them then he adds everything up and he comes out with 51,540lbs Im like d**n The trucks gvw is 46k and with our overload permits we are allowed 48k well needless to say i drove away with a 844 dollar ticket Got back on the radio to my tractor operator after this happened and told him not to load the next truck so full and he said why i told him that the CEV officers are at the warehouse i was 3500 lbs over and i have an 840 dollar ticket right here He just chuckled and said well at least the rest of the row fit my dad and uncles on the other hand were not too happy about it
MarkD Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Family trucking line? The company (that loaded the truck) is responsible for the ticket...right?
The SPEEDY Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Man, $840 That would make me want to Hope things work out.
silverado man Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 Man that sucks. It's like there knew you were coming and was there waiting for you.

Yep family farm so we are responsible for the ticket . Most the time we do overload the trucks , its lust rare to see the cev officers at the warehouse they usually patrol the hi-ways and are at the state operated scales . Fortunetly today both time I went into the warehouse no cev vans to be found and when i rolled over the scales again today I was over but not by much 49800
k1500chevy97 Posted July 18, 2003 Author Posted July 18, 2003 Man that sucks. It's like there knew you were coming and was there waiting for you. Exactly , whenever they go to that place they always setup right before the warehouse scales because they know that you have to weigh your truck before and after you unload it
doverarjim Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 Dang, and I was feeling bad about my little run in with Barney Fife, it only cost me $125.00 for doing 70 in a 55. First time I've been stopped in nearly 20 years, first ticket in about 29 years, last ticket was for exessive smoke!!!!
MCourson Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 $840 ouch. I know some guys with a kart racing trailer (about a 12' trailer) loaded behind a pickup that was passing through North Carolina. They went passed the weigh station thinking it was only for semis and got pulled over and searched by a DOT guy. They got busted for transporting 5 gallons of methanol which is what we run as fuel. If Im not mistaken they got him for transporting untaxed alcohol. Now if this officer thinks that this is the kind of alcohol you drink I'd like to see him take a big gulp of it and see how he feels.
MarkD Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 DOT is anal around here! Often you will see more of them on the road than Highway Patrol officers (and that is saying something in SC).
99silveradoz71 Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 exessive smoke!!!! Hmm...excessive smoke. That's usually my bs reason for stopping a car. Often times it helps me find a suspended or wanted driver. I do stop for a lot of equipment violations, but it's usually just as pc, I don't write stuff like that. I do know that a few other cities near us have ERO(equipment repair orders) which are cheap tickets that are voided if you get the violation repaired within 3-5 days I think.
doverarjim Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 The lady cop who wrote that exessive smoke ticket wanted to get me for speeding but I saw her before she saw me so I was at the speed limit when she got turned on me. The reason for the smoke was that I had just replaced a bent push rod and readjusted the valves and I put the valve covers on and started home not thinking to much about the oil on the headers. Those 7500 RPM launches on that 396 with the hyd cam played heck on push rods and those stamped steel rocker arms. I carried at least 5 of each push rods and 4 or 5 rockers all the time. I had it down to changing one out in less than 10 minutes or less.
