Ecm replacement code p0601

Truck is 2008 GMC Sierra sle 5.3 4x4

Looking to see if anyone had a similar problem or direct me to a thread. 

Truck has died on me 5 times in the last few months. 

First time the truck had been sitting idiling for a while and it shut off with "reduced engine power" on display. 

Following 4 times happened while driving. 

Driving and same thing comes on the display and truck shuts off. Turn key off for 30sec to a minute and truck would start again. Got the code checked with a cheap code reader and then my local garage with an expensive reader and both show code P0601. His showed a graph with the majority of the codes leading to ecm being faulty. 

 

I have an ecm from salvage yard from the same year truck but had the 4.8. 

 

Any experience with this code?

can the salvage ecm be swapped and truck driven to the dealer for the reflash?

The control module's read only memory has failed.  You can try to reflash the original, not sure about using the 5.3s; can't hurt to try since it's also an E38.
