06 GMC SIERRA lifter roller

My truck seems to have this issue with a chirping in the engine. Everything I️ have read points to a bad lifter roller which in turn has probably caused some damage to the cam. I️ did not notice anything preceding this to give any kind of warning. Should I️ have noticed something. Also I️ think I️ read that there was some bad lifters used in the engines in my trucks manufacturing year. How do I️ find out if it might be covered by a gm special bulletin or recall. Money is tight enough on a normal week let alone around Christmas time. Any help would be appreciated. Was hoping someone from GM customer care might read this and contact me for a VIN to check to see any recall or assistance from GM is available. Thanks

My 2010 had a lifter collapse and damaged the cam.  Noticed the chirping when I pulled in the driveway and stopped to get the mail.  I had stopped about 10 minutes earlier to get gas and there was no chirping...so no, you probably wouldn't have noticed anything to give you a warning.

 

I don't think the bad lifters were in the GMT800 line (most people consider the 5.3 engines of that lineup to be the best)...the bad lifters started in the GMT900 (2007 and up) 5.3 engines with AFM.  The GMT800 engines didn't have AFM.  Sure, you could have a bad lifter but it's not due to a problem of bad lifters being used by GM.

 

Sorry to tell you, but you're not going to get any help from GM (or any of the big 3) on an 11 year old engine
