Brake caliper mix up

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I went to the dealer to get a replacement front passenger side brake caliper for my 2007 NBS silverado crew cab z71, but it looks to be a different material (see attached picture). The receipt says that this new caliper replaces the old one and it fits(haven't moved the line yet)... Does anyone have any experience with this? The new one seems to be from the 2014+ generation.a5abc49727bbf24151fec67e167d3ceb.jpg

I don't understand the question you are asking. Do I have any experience with it being a different material? If it is a dual piston brake caliper and the bolt holes line up does it matter if it is a different material? Is that the question you are asking? If so the answer would be no. Also how do you know it is a different material? Because it isn't painted? Al long as everything lines up and the brake hose attaches to the caliper without binding against anything all you need to do is bleed the brakes and move on.

personally I like to flush the brake system when I install a new caliper. But that is entirely up to you.

Hope this helps and if so hit the Like button.

If it doesn't, let me know the question you're asking and I will try to help some more.

You're looking at the new zinc electro-plating that is supposed to help keep rust to a minimum in that area.

The originals were painted black.  Most of the re-mans have no paint or plating at all, so they tend to rust in very short order.

My new Raybestos re-mans have the zinc plating.  Time will tell how well it holds up.

Since you have an '07, wonder if the dealer supplied the newer designed calipers & brackets that accommodate the spreading fingers hardware?  If not, would have been a good time to switch.  They started on some GMT 900's, in 2008, and will bolt right up to an '07.

Thanks for the input, I installed it and it seems to work, haven't gotten it on the road but I put the wheel on it and spun, no clearance issues. As my brother in law said 'you look a little different but we still keep you around'.
