I have the same issue. I called the dealer to see if it was a warranty item (I'm at 48k miles so wasn't expecting it to be) and confirmed it is not. The service employee said that it may need to be flashed. I had told him that I was going to do it myself so I'm not sure if that was a way to get me in or if it was a legit thing. Anyone else heard of flashing something to fix it?

UPDATE: After getting the fuel sensor installed yesterday, my fuel gauge is working again!! I did notice alot more people were at the dealership service center for the same issue. @ray2005, I overheard a couple people had no warranty to cover the part, but were being charged about $150 for the install to everyone that came in for the same issue. I think a “flash” would not fix this issue. They are just trying to give it a band aid hoping it goes away after a flash. Just my two cents. Good luck!

I have a 2018 chevy silverado with the same issue 27000 miles took it in and the fuel level sensor detached from the fuel pump. I have a 2016 chevy silverado with 28000 miles and has the same problem now. GM replaced both the level sensor and fuel pump in my 2018.

Took my 17 in last week. They replaced the sending unit in the tank, they said the part was on backorder but had some in stock. ran two tanks of fuel so far and it is working as it should now.

Dropped the tank and replaced the sending unit in my 2016. Two tanks later still working like it should.

Hello, new here. Came here regarding this topic. I am on my 4th fuel level sending unit on a 2018 Sierra 1500. Truck only has 28000km on it. Warranty is up in November and when I asked the dealer what they were going to do for me if and when it happens again and the service manager suggested I change the fuel I’m using 🤷‍♂️.

Has anyone found a fix for this or a reason why this would keep failing? I love my truck but I’m considering selling it if I have to replace this unit every year at my expense.

Any new updates on this issue?  I’ve got a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali and have a similar issue.  For me this only happens during the winter months.  My dealership has worked on my truck each winter since purchasing the truck new in the summer of 17 trying to fix it.  They do get the gauge working correctly, but it comes back as soon as the gas stations go back to winter blends.  The dealership has said that they think its has something to do with Chevron, Shell, or Costco stations & their special winter blends.  However, this year I’ve avoided those stations and the low fuel readings have come back anyway.  I’ll be calling the dealership again, but my guess is that they’ll say I’m past my warranty period & they’ll not cover it this time around.
