Mine didnt make a noise. Just seemed like the battery was half dead and cranked slower.

 

Think this Zero weight oil doesnt leave a film in the motor....resulting in excessive amperage draw from the battery during cold weather starts.

The 'W' is for winter (or multi-grade) not weight. A 0W-20 and 5W-20 both have the same viscosity at engine operating temp (at least fall into the same range of 6.9-9.3 cSt at 100°C). The 'W' is a SAE rating is how well the oil performs at colder temps. A 0W will have better cold flow properties when compared to the 5W. A 5W will have better cold flow properties then a 10W and so on. Most 0W-20 oils are synthetic or at least a syn blend. I have never seen a conventional (non-synthetic) 0W-20 as I don't think it can meet the 0W requirements. In theory, an engine with thicker oil will be more difficult to turn over then one with a thinner oil.

I believe the rattle at startup could be relieved with an oil accumulator setup. I used to have one on my previous truck. The accumulator would slowly fill via regular oil pressure. At engine shut down the electric valve closes and maintains oil under pressure. At next ignition power up the valve opens again and quickly pushes oil into the engine. I really like the idea of having some oil making its way into the whirly bits before firing the motor. It should greatly cut down on wear at startup (the supposed highest wear time).

 

I haven't figured out how to adapt my old accumulator to this truck though. The oil filter type mount I used previously would lower the oil filter into the frame on my 5.3L... I need to find another entrance to the oil system or find a shorter oil filter.
