TPMS Question

Hey All, 2008 GMC SIERRA - I have a question about TPMS.

I get an alert in the dash saying "Check left Rear Tire", but when I hit the info button on the panel, it tells me I have the proper amount of air in the tire, once I put the info button the alert goes away, until i shut down and re-start the truck - I don't know what gives, I've checked to make sure that the TPMS read out matches the pressure in the tire and it does, so I"m not sure what gives - any suggestions?

When you're not looking it's probably posting various pressures or just blanking out, time for a new sensor.  I was foolish and tried to make ten years, they lasted eight.  So just months after replacing the tires they're being broken down again at each rotation for another sensor to be swapped out.  $75 wasted and could have been spent with my wife.

13598771, 25920615, 13586335 are some of the sensors that will work without a hiccup.

The battery is getting weak in one of the sensors. As the guy above said multiple sensors will work with this truck. I have been buying these lately for $20 each and they are ACDelco.

I bought a set of 4 from a guy on ebay, seems he was removing them from brand new cars for a fleet or something for $45 shipped.

Ok good. Let us know how it works out.

They work perfect, already installed them.  They are the first part number of those listed above.

When you buy an new sensor... is the learn procedure the same as a tire rotation or is athat “activation tool” required?

I don't understand this question.  When you get a tire rotation the sensors are not relearned by themselves -- you need the tool to program them to the correct locations.

When rotating the tires... I have only put it in lean mode (lock/unlock on fob with key on) then I let air out of the wheels going around the truck.

Well I had new bedsides put on it and when I picked it up the dash said "check right rear wheel pressure" but did not show the (!) on the dash.  So I tried to relearn the sensors with the letting air out of the tires method but it wouldn't recognize right rear so I assumed that the battery died in the TPMS and I purchased a new one.  The new one also doesn't learn with the letting air out method.  My question is … With a new sensor is there something else that I have to do such as using the activation tool?

In my experience, new sensors do need any special programming.  2007-2009 you can program without a tool, using the horn and air pressure method.  2010 and later use the reset tool.

So I purchased one of the learning tools.  Works really easy.  My brand new sensor is either dead or I bought the wrong one.  I have a 2008 Silverado crew-cab LT and I bought one that's a 13581558 13586335 15123145 315 MHz TPMS made by ExcelVan … Is this the correct wheel sensor?

I’ve figured this out. Obviously I had some confusion between “relearn” vs “reprogram” . The ExcelVan brand tmps sensor I’ve bought is blank and can be programmed to several different makes/ models/ frequencies which the flashing tool for it requires you to clone the old sensor including the unique ID of the sensor which I’m not sure how someone could get it with a dead sensor.

Some of the replacement sensors are already programmed at the correct freq and it’s own unique ID which the silverado’s BCM will accept which is why some people are saying you just have to relearn a brand new sensor.

I bought a new nav/dvd unit and can program tire rotations and reprogram psi thresh holds with it on my 08. Neat feature.
