what's this for?

Today I noticed there was a 2 inch long by 1/4 wide black, foamy, spongy thing inside my truck on the floor right by my inside floor dome light. I went to to other side of the truck and there was another piece just like it inbetween the dash and the molding. What's this used for? Sound dampering? It was sticky on both sides of the foam.

  “It should be recognized, however, that there becomes a point where fuel economy oils do not make much economic sense for the end consumer—we talk about a fuel saving of ~€100 compared to a risk of €1000 Euros if the oil is too thin and causes increased engine wear rates. However, the benefit of these oils accrues to the car manufacturers. If their vehicles can save 1–2% fuel by using a special fuel economy lubricant, then that OEM can drastically reduce the amount of fines they need to pay.” I liked this and the following paragraph as well but it’s really only touching the beginning of the benefits OEMs see from spec’ing these oils. After you factor in “out of warranty” service work and new car sales when these engines fail before their time, it’s a good racket for them. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

  SwRI is who the big OEM's go to for this sort of thing. In the above the ring and bore plus valvetrain power is roughly the same for 0W30 to 0W16 but both fall apart in the 0W8. Overall the only looser is bearing friction which Stribeck told us decades ago. There is much to ponder in that reference material. That was a good find @OnTheReel

  Can you see airbag module data? If you can, buckle the belt and see if the data set shows that the belt is buckled. If its showing that it is not buckled on the data but its physically buckled, then it probably needs the buckle.

  I scanned it with my FoxWell NT 630+, which is supposed to be able to catch seat belt warnings, and got nothing.
