Fog light option for WT

Thanks for the reply. I am referring to installing fog lights in W/T that has a solid chrome/steel bumper with no openings for fog lights. Maybe the best option is to purchase an aftermarket bumper off ebay/online and then go through the steps to install fog lights.

I am having this bracket from Rigid installed next week. Rigid does offer SAE approved fogs that will fit this bracket.

Fog lights on trucks are useless and only there for aesthetics

Not true at all. Here in Utah at night especially when it’s raining fog lights are a HUGE help in seeing the lines on the freeway. Our lines here don’t have a lot of reflection so they can be difficult to see. My new 18 Silverado 2500 WT doesn’t have them either and my last truck did. I didn’t think I’d miss them but i was mistaken.

It is just a matter of placement. Fog light are supposed to be very close to the ground and illuminate the road very close to the front of the vehicle.

most fog lights on trucks are well over a foot off the ground and aim the same area your headlights hit. I remember testing mine in really thick fog and noticed no real noticeable difference, same in my wife’s CRV. That led me to researching most manufacturers have placed fog lights out of realistic usage.

Ya as for actually helping in the FOG I agree they don’t really help much. But as I said to help see the lines on the freeway they can be a HUGE help. At least in my experience

I have found fog lights to be very beneficial more for seeing the road up closely after dusk. The term "fog light" appears to be a misnomer. I agree that most fog lights don't help much for purposes of seeing through fog. My 2013 Yukon has "fog lights" that, when turned on, do significantly help, in my opinion, light up the road very closely to the front of the Yukon. Unfortunately for those of us that own Silverado or Sierra W/T models, there doesn't appear to be a good option for adding fog lights if our bumper doesn't have the insert -- unless we want to change out the front bumper or get into a Chip Foose style of bumper modification!

My research has indicated that one can add the 20" LED light bar in the center of the factory W/T bumper, but haven't pursued this yet because I'm not sure how much it will help light up the road and it appears that the light bar is for "off road" use only.

Can anyone intelligently comment from experience on how well the 20" bumper installed light bar works and when it can be used? Of course we all know there are different qualities of light bars for sale! I am thinking of a light bar similar to the one in the below link.

I think you will have glare issues with oncoming traffic with that light bar in a "fog" application - it appears to have a spot/flood combo beam pattern and the flood portion will likely be blinding.

Hey. I’m having the same problem and thought that where the black plastic on either side of trans cooler would look most factory but can’t find anything. Any ideas
