So back in December I dented my bumper and some paint chipped during a snow storm. I've been back and forth on buying a new (or used) bumper and debating on whether to buy the ones with the fog light holes. Has anyone installed aftermarket ones into the 2016/17 silverado fog light holes? Just trying to see if i should buy the bumper and do aftermarket lights or spend more money to buy the ones that fit in correctly and then rewire (since i have the custom and i read that they cant be wired to headlights due to too much amperage i believe) if anyone has does any of these please let me know!

I don’t think the BCM would turn them on anyway even if you did install all the factory lighting, wiring and switches. You could find a way to turn them on, but I don’t think it would be factory. I’d have to research it a little further.

I’m saying, for a truck that doesn’t have fog lights to begin with, the BCM won’t turn them on because it’s not expecting them to be there. If you already had fog lights, of course they’ll still turn on if you replace them with a different component. A light just needs power and ground.

You'd have to wire them and put them on a separate switch.  If its not factory equipped with fogs, you can't use the OEM headlight switch, the BCM won't power them, and the printed circuit relay isn't in the underhood fuse block.

Thanks guys.. Now i have to figure out how if its easier to mount aftermarket ones in the slot or oem :smash:  havent even bought the bumper. i found one that was chrome w/ the hole for 125 which i then want to wrap/ line x. hate chrome for trucks

Ahhhh OK read too fast.

Best to use a relay and it’s own power than. BCM’s can be persnickety. My dads f150 lock out his puddle lamp circuit when he overloaded it.

Lesson learned is to add relays and not try to “steal” power from other lights.

Honestly, I’d just stick some oem led fogs in the new bumper and just wire them up to a separate switch. They’re weirdly shaped, so without any metal work, nothing aftermarket would look good in there. You could always open up the factory fogs and wire in some nichia leds and be the guinea pig. Lol!
