2007 Silverado

I just bought 2007 4WD Reg Cab Silverado and discovered that the brake light only work when the key is in the run position. I have own and worked on a lot of cars and truck and this is the first time I've seen this. Can any one tell me is this the normal or is there something wrong. Don't want to be trying to fix something if there is nothing wrong. An help would be great.
