2014 Sierra Tow equiped

Guys need some help. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra SLE Z-71 with Tow equipment. My build sheet shows and external  oil cooler but I  don't see a transmission cooler. Does anyone know if these trucks came with a Trans cooler or do they consider the trans cooler an external oils cooler?

It has a factory trans cooler. It does not have the larger, stand-alone auxillery trans cooler that comes on the max tow packages. You will be good to haul up to your gvwr, just keep your dash displaying trans. temp when towing so you can keep at eye on it. You are looking for temps of 180f-210f any higher and you are risking cooking your ATF, and harming the trans.

Thank you. I just had the transmission serviced since I have 76,000 miles on it. I will keep an eye on the temp while towing my toy hauler.

That's an interesting range, mine runs about 170-190ish at normal conditions.

Its usually about 100 degrees over ambient temps.  If you have a good cooler then its probably going to run a litle cooler.  My 2008 ran consistenlty about 150 degress and it had the heavy duty cooler.

What do you have or a cooler?  I assume youre talking about your 2015?

Yes the 15.  My 00 doesn't have a gauge, just an idiot light.  I could see it on the 00 with Torque pro app, but I don't use that unless I'm doing something specific.

 

The 15 does not have extra coolers that I've see.  I do have the factory trailer brake controller, but it's not a Max tow package.   I watched the gauge a bit on the way home.  Topped out about 177.  Ambient temperature was about 67.  So that works with your rule of thumb pretty well.  That was also running the interstate with the cruise set at 84.
