BRAKE PEDAL NOISE

Anyone have a noise in their brake pedal area when hitting and depressing the brakes? I cant describe the noise (i have to listen more closely) but it is ery noticable

Does it sound like a click? If so, its just the brake pedal switch. When you press on the brake pedal, this switch has a plunger, and the plunger makes the clicking noise. When the plunger is extended (brake pedal pressed) it makes your brake lights come on. When the plunger is compressed (brake pedal not pressed down) this makes the brake lights shut off. This type of noise is normal. Also, the brake pedal switch allows the cruise control to shut off when you press on the brake pedal.

Its not the brake swith that makes that clicking noise, it is the solenoid that prevents you from shifting out of park without pressing the brake pedal. Listen more closely, it only does it when the gear selector is in park.

RyanbabZ71, Are you talking about a clunking noise or a noise like sucking air?

no not the sucking air noise and not the click. Its like something is grabing something else. It was making the noise last night and today it was fine. Ill listen again tonight

Sorry, i meant the solenoid.

But I hate to break it to you, but the noise happens any time the brake pedal is depressed (solenoid working).

No, it only does it when the truck is in park. I just went and checked in my 99 Tahoe and my brother's 2000 Z-71. Why would the solenoid need to move when the selector is already out of park? The relay clicks everytime the brake is pressed, but it is under the hood so I don't think you could hear that. With the truck running and in park press the brake pedal a couple of times to hear the solenoid click, pretty loud really. Now put the truck in drive and press the brake a couple of times quick . No solenoid click.

You are both correct. There is a solenoid clicking sound that keeps you from moving it out of park, but there is also a feint clicking sound from the brake switch for the lights.
