I have a chance to buy a 63 chevy for 3K. The truck is not finished, but about 3/4 done (frame off restoration). All the rust, if there was any, has been removed. Cab is ready for paint. Bed and hood are not. That is not a big problem for me because I can prep them for paint myself. I don't think that it will require more than 2K more $ for me to finish it.

Thing is I only have 3K right now. I have a car to drive, but there is no telling when it is going to give out on me (350 K miles). I do think that I would be able to buy and finish this truck for less money than it would take me to buy a newer vehicle. Therefor it wouldn't take me as much time as it would to save up. I hope to be able to sell the truck for or more than twice what I will invest to buy and finish the truck.

What do you guys think. Should I bother, or just keep saving my money for the vehicle that I want in the first place? I will ask my boss how much $ in parts are needed to finish the truck, but I don't think it should be any more than 2k.

BTW the truck will be coming up for sale because the owners have not been heard from in over a month and my boss has 3k invested, and he will be selling the truck to get that back. 3k was the last bill that the owner was sent and did not pay. It has much more than that in it.

It might be woth it to go ahead and grab the truck as long as you know that what you are being told is true.As long as it is put back together and looks/runs nice,it will be a decent investment and toy.

One warning-If you estimate that you will only need to put 2g's in to finish the truck, you may want to double that estimate. There will always be something that you don't like right before it gets done or something that was overlooked so it's better to overestimate than to get in over your head.

I know that everything I have been told is true because I work at the shop that it is located at, so I see it everyday. I don't think it will take more than 2k because as far as I know all of the parts are there except for the glass. I work with a glass cutter, so I can get a deal on that. I can do everything my self except paint.

Save yo money. While its neat to have older vehicles, they generally require quite a bit of cash to keep them up, especially if you plan on driving it.

I am sure you will need the money later for something more important.

I would say skip it.

Like JonesNTN says. Older vehicles will eat a paycheck in a rush.

If you have extra cash, and extra time, not to mention the desire to work on it ALL the time....Then by all means, go for it.

But for your primary mode of transport, I would say...Nope.

I kinda talked myself out of it at work today. Been working hard all summer to make money and I don't want to spend it on the vehicle I didn't want in the first place. So I keep driving the yoda for now  .

Well I was told that with a mechanics lean on the truck I could get one. But who cares, I'm not going to get it.

Sppedy, it sounds like you made a wise decision! This does sound like a great project to do for a spare vehicle or toy but not as a daily driver. I would have to agree with the other responses.

Keep saving your money till the time is right and you find the right vehicle and drive the yoda till it BLOWS UP!

I don't know what I was thinking. That truck wouldn't be any more reliable than the yoda. I think it was the chance to get something other than rice. I also do a good bit of traveling, so I wised up.

BTW, I don't plan to sell the yoda (can't get anything for it) because I will need a car to get stuff when the Baby is down. You know, can't drive an open header car to school when the cops sit and watch everybody pull in.

SPEEDY gots big plans. :lol::cool:

Smart move on not getting it .

I just got rid of my 63 c-10 .

I decided I had no time or money to even think about restoring it so away it went for 400 bucks .

I asked my great-uncle , uncles and my dad before I sold it though since it has been ours since bought new back in 63 for the farm
