6.0 towing?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm looking at a few different Chevy 6.0's between 99-06 and would like some opinions on these trucks. I'd be using it mostly for a work truck and towing my other truck to truck pulls, a combined truck and trailer weight of about 9,000lbs. I only go to about 6 pulls a year so it's not like im towing all the time. Will the 6.0 do it fine or do think even the 5.3 would be enough? Thanks

I think the 5.3 would be just fine. Preferably - you want the LT model vs the LS if possible. Also, get yourself some 10 ply tires.

I have an '02 'Burban LS 5.3. Paid $1,100 and drove it home. It tows just fine.

I also picked an '03 'Burban LT and drove that one home too for $800. It tows just fine as well.

Either rig can pull the dual axle trailer loaded with a full size SUV.

You will want to look at 25+ vehicles over the course of several months, and buy 1 or 2 of them.

3.73s gives GCWR of 14,000 and 4.10s 16,000 GCWR. All of the models have a max trailer weight of at least 10,000 pounds with the 4.10 gear.

Check out the 2002 Silverado brochure which can be downloaded for free off of the net.
