Whos running Icon coilovers?

Had a spacer kit put in to level out my 18 Sierra, and while the ride is not bad, I am definitely going to upgrade to coilovers at some point in the near future.

I read about Madcow’s problems, but also saw only a couple other posters who love theirs. Not that much feedback on these using the search function.

Truck is 95% street driven with possibly the occasional camping/fishing trip where there would be some light off roading, nothing crazy

If your running Icon coilovers please tell me how you like them

It was a shame to hear about Madcow's experience, it sounds like he got the wrong springs so they could never be set up correctly and ICON's customer service was no help.  That's discouraging.  But I can only relay my experience.

I got the basic extended travel coilovers without the reservoir and they've been nothing but fantastic.  I had 5100's on the truck before that and the difference was night and day, both in handling and the way they take large bumps. I've had them on for more than three years and nearly 40,000 miles with three different setups.

First they were leveled a bit over 2" (close to factory setting) and were fantastic, then after swapping from 34's to 35's I had rubbing so I cranked them up to a bit more than 2.5" (I had Cognito arms).  That setup was less than ideal (as any 2.5+ level is) as my angles were pretty stretched and extension travel was more limited but they still did fine.  Now I'm using them with the 4" BDS lift centered back on their factory setting and this is the easily the best setup of the three (good angles on everything, full range of travel available both ways).  I can drive like a maniac offroad and never feel like I'm going too fast for the suspension to handle.  Yet they still give the good "sports-car-like" handling on the highway I like, vs. the more floaty handling some of the other offroad-oriented shocks will provide.

I have no immediate desire to upgrade from these until I'm ready to spend some much bigger money--above the base-level Fox or Kings (non-bypass) that are offered for these trucks.  If Bilstein ever makes the new 8112 coilovers for these trucks that might do it, those things are getting fantastic reviews in the Toyota world.

The problem with Icon is they lie about their supposed upgraded model of shock. As soon as you get the reservoir they no longer are the extended travel or long enough for the 700 lbs springs our trucks need. With the basic 2.5 the spring will be 700 lbs and have the 5.0 inches of travel if I am recalling that correctly. The ones with reservoirs and up have a shorter shock body meaning shorter shock travel and unable to put normal spring lengths or weights on. The ones with the reservoir and adjusters only have 3.8 inches of wheel travel which is the same as stock shocks. So buyer beware of dealing with a shock company that doesn’t post truthful information about their product and won’t support you to make it correct.

Did you do any trimming when you had them on 2-2.5” settings?

No, but it still rubbed when hitting a large enough bump with the wheel turned.  I had zip tied the fender liners out of the way as much as possible which was enough for 34X11's, but not for 35X11.5's.  The 4" lift clears them easily.

Lol the ones you had issues with that sprung a leak?

No no that’s not them at all. Lol. You can take them to a local shock tuner have them rebuilt to your trucks needs

Oh you have a different set? PM me please

Sorry I was being sarcastic. The shocks are rebuildable. Usually $150.00 a shock through a local shock tuner. They can also do custom tuning and valve stacks. They will also insure you have the correct spring rate. By measuring the weight of your truck. If you plan to run after market control arms I don’t recommend the adjustable reservoir shock, but if you are just going two inches up with stock UCA I would sell these to you they will work good and ride good for that application. Otherwise these will limit your down travel and give you a bad ride.

If at this point you are interested I would sell them to you and the rear 2.0 I have. All Four at 1250.00

I am assuming the unibal UCA. Then you will want a shock with 5.3 inches of wheel travel to take advantage of your extra wheel travel your suspension now has.

Not sure about those. You certainly want to know all you can about your suspension travel before picking a shock. You want to keep as much articulation as you can. It gives you a better ride. If you don’t have enough down travel your suspension isn’t able to droop out enough in holes to work and absorb them. This leads to a tough ride. Email mail them and see what wheel travel they say their arms are good for. I can do the math and tell you what travel shock you need. Stock travel is around 7.5 inches.

I will second what Jon said, very happy with my icons.

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
