Mine ripped sometime Saturday night. Came out on Sunday and saw the grease in the wheel well.

I was looking at the directions on how to replace one of these and it looked fairly simple. Has anyone here done one? Any tips?

The outer one ripped but I'm also thinking that since I have this whole thing out I might as well replace the inner one as well.

Any suggestions?

Only to look into simply replacing the entire half shaft assembly. A rebuilt halfshaft for my wife's toyota was 60$. This would include both new boots and rebuilt cv joints.

I know a new assembly on the net will run me $260. The new boots (including the banding rings and the proper amount of grease) are $26 each at the dealer. Roughly about the same price of ordering and shipping from our sponsors on the left. Replacing with a brand new assembly will still require you to take the old one out of the truck but you will only have one band to deal with. I believe all my parts are still good but only the boot ripped.

I just wanted to clear this up since I have some new information. Checkers and Autozone carries the complete halfshaft assemblies. When initially checking with Autozone they told me they didn't carry the boots or the halfshafts.

Someone on PUTC told me that Checkers did carry the halfshafts. I doubled checked and they did for 95 plus the core. I re-called Autozone (different store location) and they carry them as well for 100 plus the core.

Two boots cost me $52. Plus I still needed to pick up the banding tools and the hassle of cleaning all the grease out of the joints. By the time I got the tools I figured I would be up to 80-85 dollars. So and additional 20 bucks complete is a great deal.

$100 for re-man halfshaft and life time warranty is far better than $260 new half shaft and one year warranty.

Sorry for all the confusion. I'm always looking for a way to save a buck and had I known I could have otten re-man halfshafts I would of went that route to begin with. Now I need to return the boots.
