2011 GMC SIERRA 1500 Crew Cab SLE

I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab SLE with 20" rims. I need new wheels and tires and I am thinking about dropping down to a 17" rim so I can put a beefier tire on. Can this be done without having to do any modifications to the truck?

My 11 left the factory with 265 70 17 on it - look ped much better when I put BFG AT KO on it.

17s are the standard size wheel on the Sierras...anything larger is considered to be upgraded wheels

Ok. I do have another question, I got the 17" wheels, what is the max tire size I can go and still have full clearance without lifting the truck? I'm thinking 265 will be the biggest but would like to go with a 285 if possible.
