I was told by my dealer to download android auto from Google play store which I did and then connect my android phone USB cable to usb data port which I did, but my phone still doesn't work. I have a Note 8 SM-N950U. 

Does anyone know if my phone is compatible with my truck. 2016 LTZ

Do you have the window sticker? There was a shortage and several vehicles received a credit for not having the updated interface. What is the RPO code for your system and is there an RPO code "CPO" listed?  In the upper glove box.

You probably don't have the capability.  Like Timayz said only the later-build trucks had the right HMI and even then the dealer had to do a software update to enable it.  If the truck was an earlier-build with the 2015 HMI the original buyer was given a small cash rebate or discount on accessories to make up for it.
