Weed Eater

I need a running string trimmer. The McCulloch is up s**ts creek right now with a parts delay that could last weeks. I just want something that is somewhat reliable and somewhat good at what it does. I am thinking of buying a cheap-o Weed Eater Featherlite. Anybody got one? Are they fairly reliable? Any issues with them?

I've had a 22cc Weed Eater for about 12 years now, and it is finally starting to act up on me. I think it's just getting tired of WOT runs out in the yard for hours on end. It isn't a Cadillac of gas trimmers but man that thing could do some serious damage once I crank it up to full tilt.

The next one I want when this one bites the ghost is a Stihl with a clutch driven system. I've used these before and they kick a$$. When you let off the gas, it disengages the drive and the trimmer head slows down to a stop until you hit the gas again and it re-engages.

I picked up a Ryobi for about $65 at a local farm supply store about 3 yrs ago and it has treated me very good. It does not have all the attaachments, it is just a basic string trimmer. It has the curved shaft so I would not run a brush cutter on it as the shaft is not strong enough.

Harbor Freight has the same model I have for $49.99 now.

May have to look at that Roybi, that is cheaper than the smaller Weed Eater.

I may not get a trimmer now though. My budget is tight and I have a chance to get some RARE model cars at a good price, may jump on that instead and wait on the trimmer.

Have had an Echo curved shaft for years with no real major problems. I'd go for their 2400 model with a straight shaft if I had it to do over.

I have had a ryobi for years. I wouldn't call it "nice", but it does the job. At 6'1" I have to stay hunched over to use it, and my shins are inevitably covered in clippings. I would love a Stihl or a Shindiawa, but right now, money is best spent elsewhere.

I have a Weed Eater Featherlite. IMO its the best cheap trimmer there is. It been very reliable and starts right up with out any trouble.

I also have a Honda UMK422 trimmer. It has a four stroke engine and starts on the first or second pull 98% of the time plus NO more mixing gas and oil :P

It has many many hours on it and has no hint of trouble. I paid around $350 for mine, so its a bit pricey but worth every penny IMO

I have a HomeLight, if you keep them running they are little beasts. Same engine's as John Deer Weed-eaters, ours is a 27cc I think

Have you checked at Home Depot. They had the homelite for $80 I think. I have talked to several people that have those and say they run great and last. Worth a look, you can always go to Homedepot.com and check them that way.
