2005 5.3 whining

Well I’ve found my next problem. I noticed my engine is making a whining noise that sounds like a supercharger or turbo. It is linked with engine speed and will happen in neutral or in drive. I left school today, and the whining was the loudest it’s ever been. After I got home I shut of the truck and after about 2 minutes started it up again, and it was barely audible. On the way home, the volume of the whining was consistent even after it had warmed up. My truck also suffers from low oil pressure if that’s of any importance. When hot, the pressure at idle is around 10 to 15 pounds. Running at 60 down the road is about 30 pounds. It hits 40 when cold, but drops off as it warms up.Engine was swapped only has 84,000 miles, the truck has 215,000. Also, after I rev it up around 4 or 5k, the ac compressor will temporarily cut off without hitting the button. Just thought I would mention that in case if is the ac pully. I think it might be the oil pump, because i checked videos of a bad power steering pump and they don’t sound the same. My alternator charges fine so I don’t know if that’s it.

Get a mechanics stethoscope and trace sound. It uses a metal probe they can be touched to stationary sources. Closer to the sound, the louder it gets.

Is the truck electronic cooling fan or clutch fan? Also I had the same issues with my truck a few months ago. Turned out to be AC Compressor. Try taking off the serpentine belt for a short amount of time and rev the engine a little. If u still hear the noise then you have elongated the belt and all pulleys/accessories

I have electric fans, and even if it had a mechanical fan, I don’t think that’s what it is. For the past 2 days (as of 10/18/18) the sound has been almost inaudible. It’s only when you get in the upper rpms that you can just barely hear it. I’m also thinking that it might be the ac compressor. Just a little fun fact, the 1500’s went to electric fans in 2005, however the HD’s kept them.
