Windshield low level sensor for methanol kit

Recommended Posts

Working on a methanol injection kit. Just to save me the hassle of taking everything apart to expose the windshield wiper reservoir and looking for the low level sensor, does a 2017 Sierra SLT say "Low Windshield Fluid" (or some type of indicator) on the display if the level is low?

There is but question is if it is a negative signal. As need by most meth kits if not a relay with fix that. Post pics when you do it very interested in this.

Used the washer tank in diesels all the time for that very reason. Also nice because we would just use regular washer fluid for the injection since it’s 20-30% methanol. If you could find the low temp washer fluid or de-ice fluid it would be closer to 50% meth.

Drained the windshield washer reservoir today and YES, there is a low-level sensor. I'm going to use that reservoir for the meth, so I'm all set with the built-in low-level sensor. I'm not sure what concentration of meth and water to use. Julio at Alky says to use 100% meth because it's safest on the supercharger rotors. I might do 100% during winter and then mix in 10%-30% water during our 100-115 degree summers to see if it helps with the cooling (which I've been told it won't because the SC heats it up immediately). It'll be a couple more weeks to finish the Alky install because I only get an hour here and there to do it.

Here's how the stock built-in low level sensor works. It will display a low level message on the DIC for a few seconds when it becomes low while driving. You will not see this message again until the next time you start the truck. This is good and bad. Good - it tells you right when it senses you are getting low (although it's a short message) and good that it keeps showing you upon each start. Bad - it won't continue to display the message, so if you miss it and keep on driving you might run out of meth and not realize it.

Not much left for my install. Just gotta get the nozzle placed into my intake tube, splice the MAF converter into the green/white wire of my MAF harness, and plug everything into the controller and PAC. Oh yeah, and buy some methanol.
