Off-road hunting adventure in the snow

I had some free time this afternoon and decided to see if I could make it up to the gamelands.  My truck did really well after I remembered to turn off traction control.  The snow doesn’t look deep in this picture but there were a few spots where I was dragging the rear differential.  Someone else tried to come up the mountain while I was out hunting and they didn’t make it. I saw tracks where they tried to turn around and slid into a ditch.  My truck didn’t slide at all.  Once again my KO2s have proven themselves adequate for my needs.  I do think I’ll go up a size next time to get that pumpkin up a bit higher.

As an added bonus, I killed my limit and the dogs got some much needed exercise!

Nice! I'm getting KO2's soon. Heard a lot about them. I'm running stock on my 2016 and dont trust them much in the snow. Had 2 sets of KO's on my Blazer and loved them!

I had KOs on my Canyon and they were good, but these are better. Almost 30k miles on them and still plenty of tread.  I really should’ve went bigger though. I’ve been regretting that for almost 3 years now... 275-60-20s or 285-55s going on next time for sure.  At the time I was concerned about fuel economy, but it’s a truck and I don’t DD it, so I don’t know why I cared.

I love my  Taco Tuesday tires. They suit my needs perfectly.

Nice looking dogs and a good hunt. Do you save feathers? For fly timing and other things.

I’ll be tying loads of pheasant tail nymphs with these.  Lost a good many fishing this year, so time to stock up!

Go up a size, 275-55 just don’t look right.

Pros and cons?

The Cap is a Ranch Sierra.  I just bought it a month ago.  It has sliding windows on the sides and against the cab.  I went with this one because I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, plus I was able to get it 2 weeks from ordering it.  Supposedly ARE takes longer to get in and cost $2-300 more.  http://www.ranchfiberglass.com/

I had a tonneau cover before, and the dogs rode in the cab.  I’ve now got a 3 month old baby, so she rides in the cab or her car seat does.  The dogs get really dirty and sometimes bring in ticks.  Now with the cap, they are in crates in the bed.  It’s also extremely handy for camping trips.  I tend to overpack and this enables my disease...

I’d never go back to a tonneau.  My next truck may have an 8ft bed with a cap.

Cons:

The cap is basically a permanent fixture. I’m thinking of ways of easy removal; but in the end this may be my perfect excuse to pull the trigger on the dump trailer I’ve been wanting. So; as for cons: to me and my lifestyle, there are none.
