2008 Tahoe 4wd AUTO Problem

Purchased used 2008 Tahoe 4wd, 150000k.  Engaged the dial to "AUTO" 4wd, has the sound and feel of being engaged in 4wd.  Was under the impression that this would not occur unless there was loss of traction.  Turn to 4HI and remains the same noise and handling.  Have been told to check actuator, fluid in transfer case.  Any thoughts on this?  Possible sensor?

The Auto function engages part of the 4WD system and when the system detects wheel slip, it engages the rest.  The noise you are hearing is normal.  You will hear some differences of opinion here, but if you don’t need 4WD, leave it in 2hi.

Copy that.  I think a fluid check is in order, my opinion that it shouldn't be that much noise, even in 4x
