Effect of Changing Tire Size

Thinking of upping from stock 275/55/20 to 275/60/20 on my 2014 Chevy 1500 Silverado crew cab.

Wondering if anyone can tell me in real life if this will have much effect on towing as we have a 6000 lb travel trailer we tow a few times a year.

Am I running any risk up sizing these couple of inches?

Hey Ubelongoutside - i was going through the same question a few months back and really answered some of my own questions, as i tow a 6k lb car trailer as well. I would up staying with the stock size, as i did not want to hurt towing performance. If you really want that bigger size, i would look for a 275/60/20 that runs small (slightly lower rollout than stock), kind of a +.5 size up rather than a full size up. Not all 275/55/20's are a true 32", and not all 60's are a true 33".

If you have time, look through my thread, i talk all about it here. Lots of good info.

I've had no issues with upsizing to 275/60R20 BFG All Terrains. I did loose 2-3 mpgs and you can definitely feel the weight of the tires but the truck still pulls fine and I love the way it looks. If you went with a lighter tire (mine are D load range and weigh 55 lbs) you might not see as much of a drop in mileage. I have no rubbing and I still load it up and tow with it regularly and I only have 3.08 gears.

Did you level or lift, or is that stock?

Stock suspension, no lift/level. When I put the tires on I wondered why it wasn't spec'd this way, they fit perfect and fill out the wheel wells.
