Mirror Shake

Has anyone noticed their mirror shakes at freeways speeds, especially headed into the wind? I just recently bought a used '14 double cab with power folding mirrors and have noticed that the drivers side mirror shakes a little bit, it is tolerable but I would definitely like to fix it if possible and relatively simple. I can't tell if it is the glass or the housing, and I haven't been able to find anyone mentioning the same thing. I was wondering if anyone had dealt with this before taking apart the door to try to tighten the nuts holding the mirror to door. I will likely wait till spring or summer to remove the door panel since it is winter and I am not a fan of popping plastic clips when it is cold out because I really don't want to break anything.

Its common, usually its the little gear in the power folding mechanism cracked or broken.  Once that happens, it wont compress the main spring in the unit at the extent and thus wont hold the mirror housing as stable as it should.

How does it power fold ?  You might be able to cycle it a few times and see if that clears it up, if you can get the gear to rest in a position where its not chipped.

The best cure is just to take the mirror assy apart and replace the plastic gear in it with a brass one.

This company has the parts for it, i believe its the 1st item in their GM truck section :

There is also a big DIY write up.  Note it is similar drive mechanism but slightly different mirror frame details as their DIY which is for the Tahoe/Yukons.

On my rig, the mirror glass was loose. It had movement between the glass and the mirror housing. I turned the glass all the was one direction. Then I moved the glass back and fourth by hand while looking behind the glass with a flashlight. I found play between 2 plastic parts. I slipped a small bit of super glue covered plastic in there, and the problem disappeared.

My 14 does the same thing.

Just the glass vibrates.

Last time I had it out was quite annoying.

I thought it might be the tires vibrating as I don't drive the truck much.  Thought it could have been flatspotting.

I will be doing the dl3 mirror upgrade in the spring so will see if its mirror or tires.

Sorry just seeing your response months later.. I noticed that the drivers side seems to be just a little slower folding so I will dig into it and replace that gear when it warms up!

my passenger upper mirror had shake at speed so I carefully pulled mirror off with small blade screwdriver about 10 inches long to get at tabs that hold it to motor found one of the tension springs had broken so I used two part epoxy (JB weld) to hold it in place let glue set up put it back on took care of 95% of shake could not see any thing before now pretty clear
