I have a 2014 silverado 1500 z71 looking at getting a new 2018 1500 z71, is there anything different between the two except for the front ends? I know they both have the same engine, is the tranny the same because I do not like the way mine shifts in slower city driving.

6 speed transmission would be the same. The 18 has a 8 speed available depending on the option package .
I would get the 18 before the 19..
Just my 2 cents.

I was hoping they at least changed the shifting patterns.

The trans will more than likely shift better.. Test drive one to see.
It might be the same trans, but it will have the latest updates to address the problems with the later models.

Welcome to this forum.  I have owned a couple of GM 6spd automatics and they are flawless, imo.  I am not sure what you mean by the shift pattern.   I have found that these transmissions allow for as much human input as any other automatic.  If you find that your transmission in a new truck is working improperly, your truck has a long powertrain warranty.

I just traded my 14 for a 18 same motor trans and gears. The 18 by far has better shifting than my 14 did or already I think it does.

Yeah I know I am not crazy, my 14 in town seems to shift slugish? or unsure when to shift or just IDK how to describe it. I drove my new replacement the 2018 and I didn't notice it.

I have owned a 2015 a 2017 and a 2018 all brand new and just to inform you that the shifting gets even crappier in the 16, 17, and 18 models than the 2014 and 2015 but at the same time you would have less vibration on the highway.
