Steering wheel shimmy

Hi everyone 

I have a 2016 Sierra 2500hd denali Duramax with 28xxxmiles  completely stock  I don’t have any vibration or shaking issues That I see A lot of 15 and 16 models have  my issue is my steering wheel shimmies over certain bumps drives straight  just over certain bumps steering wheel shimmies  i’ve Had Wheels Road forced balanced twice bringing it in to the dealer  Thursday has anyone had this issue just wondering what the dealers going to say thanks in advance

Make sure they check the steering and suspension for loose parts..
Steering gear end play also..
The adjuster nut comes loose and the adjuster backs out leaving excess play in the gear.

Not sure if what you are describing is the same as what I call "bump steer" where hitting a bump causes the front wheels to want to jump a little bit to the side ( don't know how else to describe it) more than they should. This for me was caused by an incorrect wheel alignment. Had a second one done at the actual dealership and this went away immediately. Perhaps that will help.

The truck doesn’t really bounces from side to side it’s the steering wheel moves left to right over a certain bumps I will have them check for a wheel alignment also

Ok here’s an update got truck from dealer every thing was perfect adjuster nut was already performed,wheel alignment was off had that done but it still does the steering bump on certain roads other than that it drives perfect.is this normal on these trucks?tech said when ordering these trucks it’s a option for a steering stabilzer. I know there’s no brackets to install it,has anyone put a stabilizer on?could this be the fix???

if i am not mistaken, 2016+ do not have existing steering stabilizer brackets in place. you will need to go aftermarket and get one that provides a place to affix the stabilizer too.

my 2015 had the existing brackets if you will. i am running a rancho stabilizer currently.

Is your truck stock? i.e. No lift, factory wheels and tires?

BDS makes a kit to put on a steering stabilizer for later models. I have put it on 2 different trucks, easy to do, works as intended.

I went and test drove a 2017 Sierra 2500 with the Duramax and it drove perfect steering wheel didn’t shimmy nothing at all So I know I’m not crazy something is wrong with my truck so I am bringing my truck back to the dealer tomorrow actually a Nother dealer and see what they say

I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with the 6.0L i bought a few month ago and noticed this same issue. I had the dealer look at it and they said that wone of the ball joints had some play and they adjusted the nut on the gear box. Im still having the issue hitting bumps or coming to a quick stop at a high speed. They told me they would try replacing the "center link" to see if that fixes it.

 

Before i bought this truck i was looking at a 2016 3500hd with the 6.0L and it had the same issue. Starting to get frustrated.
