power window problem

my 2002 sierra windows were working fine. one icy morning i wanted to put my window down but it was frozen in the closed position. i kept hitting the down button until the wind moved. it went half-way down and got stuck. I popped the doorskin off and poked around while pushing the up/down buttons... suddenly the window went up and i left it alone for a week or two. Today i sat down to observe the window. here is what happens: when the down button is pressed, the window tries to go up but it cant go up because its already up. when the up button is pressed, the window tries to go down for for a half inch or so. Any ideas? Any help? Thanks. Jim

Purchase a new switch assembly,mine went bad a few years ago, and maybe a new weatherstrip seal

bound up the window regulator cable, simple to swap for a new one. remove the door panel and you will notice the issue.

After some closer observation, it looks like the cable close to the door hinge is too tight while the cable closer to the door handle is too loose

Window regulator...$40-$50 fix (order from Amazon) and about 45 minutes

 

One of the back windows in my wife's 05 Tahoe did pretty much the same thing.  Replaced the window regulator and it's been fine ever since
