Help choosing headers for 5.3 Silverado.

Recommended Posts

Well my Silverado with the 5.3 is starting a manifold gasket leak and the manifolds are pretty rusty.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve changed the exhaust manifolds on my ‘98 454. They always cracked so I have given up on stock style manifolds.

from what I’ve read, long tube headers are the way to go. Problem is, I’m not sure which to go with. Pretty sure I want either stainless or ceramic coated headers. Not wasting my time with painted versions.

Please give me suggestions on choosing the right headers and some oppinions about how to setup the exhaust from there would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I bought my truck 8 years ago. The guy I bought it from had it 10 years. During that time he stroke the engine and put 50K miles on it. He put edelbrock coated headers on it. I checked the bolts once.

I’m guessing your happy with them. I’m actually looking for oppinions on headers for ls motors but will look into the edelbrocks.

Headers are headers, which ever small block doesn’t matter. I am impressed with the longevity.

American Racing and Kooks are well thought of.  The cab noise will increase and folks also report cracking with these but only after many years from what I've read.  The 5.3s cast manifolds are the most durable.  Long tubes are good for about 20 RWHP with a tune.

I’ve looked at kooks, big bucks lol.

That is the first I’ve heard about 5.3 manifolds being durable. I also haven’t heard bad about them. Just going off experience with my 454.

Not looking for a power increase but wouldn’t mind it. Mainly looking to have a lasting exhaust without leaks.

Thanks
