2004 Suburban 4x4 issues

Hello all, first time poster here.  I guess I couldn't find a spot for suburbans...  I have a 2--4 suburban z71, 204k miles.  Ever since I've had it, the 4x4 has never worked.  I decided to look into the issue, the lights on selector switch only turn on when cycling the key.  I ohmed through it (youtube) and it checks out fine.  I cleaned the grounds really well under the drivers side door and turned the truck on and I'll be dipped, it lights up, and I can successfully run through auto, 2h 4h and 4l.  It worked for a few days and then it went out again...  I've checked all the connections and had it scanned, for some reason it wont connect to the scanner with any codes (I think the hack who hooked up the sterio may have something to do with that).  Is anyone familiar with this type of issue?

best thing to do is get the codes out of it. Go to your local parts store and see which code is stored. It sounds like you have an encoder motor position failure (which is an easy fix) But without knowing if the code is a C0327 I don't want to lead you down that path just yet. Get that information and I will see what I can do to help further.
