LV2500HD Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 I'm in the market for a new 2020 HD and when I test drove a current 2019 1500 I really liked the rear view mirror camera. My question to all of you is how does, or does that even work with a camper shell/topper? I know they have the wired cameras for the trailers, but specifically will a camper shell/topper completely block the mirror and render it useless? Looking for feedback from anyone that may have done a shell on the new 2019 1500s. Thanks in advance!
dlockwood26 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 I can’t answer your question and have been waiting for a response. However I haven’t seen how this works and am most curious. Is the mirror as I know it in my 2016 HD converted to monitor for the camera mounted high on the back of the cab? Does the mirror not function at all like a mirror? Hope I’m not hijacking but very interested in how it works. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes the camera high on the cab projects through your rearview mirror. It can be used as a regular mirror also by flipping what used to be used to "dim" the mirror. When I first started using it I wasn't sure if I would like it, but now it's the only way I have it set. As far as the camper shell covering it, that's a good question. Do camper shells usually cover the 3rd brake light? It is mounted right by it.
The Bopper Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 I have a 2020 and I have a bed cap coming. My guess is yes, it will hinder that camera unless they make a special design to accomadate it. Ive ordered mine from ARE.
powerhaulic Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 No doubt the topper will block the camera. I like the mirror very much, took a bit to get eyes trained to it, but its great now.
CRApex Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I can see it being useful if something was in your backseat blocking your vision. I personally don’t care for it otherwise, maybe because I’m not used to it,,I don’t know, seems like I get a better perspective with it off and it’s definitely too bright at night.

Have you adjusted it? The bottom buttons have a brightness mode
