GM hacks it's way through environment

I'm in AP Environmental Science, and I know the danger's of this, but I really do't care about this list too much(I'm NOT a tree hugger by ANY MEANS), b/c most of the manufactur's are trying to fix these problems now anyway. Although it'd sure be nicer on the lungs! This still shows that car's have a way to go, bad emissions on today's cars will make for more money spent tomorrow, at least in my community: RFG, Emissions testing, inspections, etc. So let's hope this list improves, because there ARE effects, weither you care about the environment or not!

15 least envrion-friendly cars

For reference, The three of the cleanest cars in the nation are the PZEV versions of the BMW 325i, Toyota Camry, and I think the Honda Accord. All three still perform and run equal to their reg versions, but the air that comes out is cleaner that most the air in america! They do this, than driving will HELP the environment!

Hmm, when you see some of those photos and videos of LA, it makes you almost want to grab onto the exhaust of a hybrid and inhale...ok, maybe not.

My main problem with the enviro group is this-A couple of years ago,they went on record as saying that Houston had the worst air problem in the nation,including the worst day of that year by far.My question(s) are as followed:

How can vehicles possibly be mainly responsible for this when Houston has roughly 1/5th the population of helLA?Maybe everyone there does not own a car but there are still far more in that area than there are in Houston.

If it isn't the cars causing the pollution,what can it be?Quite simply,it is the chemical refineries surrounding the Houston area.During the summertime,the predominant winds come from the east and southeast.This also happens to be where the vast majority of the refineries are located around the Houston area.I also happen to know that there are several in the cities that surround LA,though much farther away from there than they are in Houston,so it seems like pretty simple math.

Bottom line,it is a means of our needs.You can not expect everyone to stop driving their vehicles and trade them off on hybrids instantly because not everyone can afford to do so,not to mention the fact that very few hybrids are affordable yet safe while also providing accomodations to 5+ passengers at a time.I also don't believe there are any that can tow 5+ tons.

Granted,the air here sucks.I will be moving my family away from the refineries within the next 5 years but I will remain in the general area because,though the economy may slow down,it doesn't get as bad here as it does elsewhere due to the jobs created by the chemical industry.

Remember, I'm no enviro-geek, but according to what we just studied, America alone uses more than 1/5 or 2/5 of total world energy comsumption. IT also said that all countries on par with america combined uses something like 2/3 of total wolrd energy comsumption, while haveing only a small percentage of overall opulation in comparison. IF these ARE true, which is in itself a quite a mystery, tree-hugger's have a tendancy to over-react and overstate, that would be quite a bit, considering how much a person uses.

I haul for a job, so my gas usage CAN'T go down!

It's those d**n pollution credits the factories get. Stop the credits and there will be a drop in pollution. Pollution is everyone's problem, the companies lining the pockets of politicians are not exempt!

Yeah....Thats kinda funny.

Yeah...we use most of the power.

But I have been to a lot of other countries (not to mention spending lots of time in Los Angeles) and some countries that don't use much energy per capita, have some of the foulest air out there. Equador is at the front of my mind...That place was NASTY. We wont even get into the air quality in Mexico.

Houston is bad, but it's not as bad as London. L.A. is bad....But it doesn't hold a candle to Cartagena, Columbia.

Tokyo is incredibly overcrowded, and the air there aint too bad...Which surprised me. I heard it was terrible.

Of course this is all from the incredibly scientific method of using Wingnuts nasal induction method. So I couldn't dream of quoting stats on it....Just how I see it.
