Is anybody in the COEUR D ALENE Idaho area? I purchased an XM receiver upgrade from J & D and I think I was robbed.

If anyone has any input, please get back with me.

Thanks!!!!

What happened? I live in Spokane and parents are in CD'A. Did you upgrade the factory deck or just add an fm modulated XM? What did it cost and what did you get?

I upgraded to the newer XM receiver, the 910XM, to replace my older unit. That's all. I ordered from this store on-line, everything acted official, nothing caught me off-guard.

And, the store is a YAHOO-sponsored store. Soooo, their phone is never answered, and their website is sometimes accessed only via username and password. Their e-mail confirming the order uses an address that is bogus, it bounces. The e-mail contact person has not responded to my e-mail. At least his e-mail hasn't bounced.

I sent a letter of complaint to him and to Yahoo's customer service. I'll be contacting the credit card folks to see what options I have.

Give 'em a try:

Ok, y'all. J & D contacted me on my home phone and office phone. I was given a FedEx tracking number for my receiver. I told the contact person there that I would retract my criticism when I felt this was not a rip-off operation and that I had the unit I purchased.

I told them that I was not irritated about any shipping delays (they claim the XM unit was on backorder when I placed my order---and I believe that). I replied that this was not the issue, but the absolute lack of response on their part, lack of phone call returns, lack of replaying to e-mail, and the fact that their website suddenly started requiring a login and password, alarmed me---that I was being ripped off. The nature of internet commerce and all of that...

The response was exceedingly apologetic, and their ordering system and website had a total melt-down which has now apparently been fixed.

This has been a frightening experience for me and demonstrates that a potential for rip-off can occur, even under the protective guard of Yahoo, so I became careless. I think J&D is being perfectly honest with me, but this really has not been fun. If a merchant, even a small reseller, wants to play with the big boys, then that merchant needs to have some redundancy built in and back-up when failure occurs, especially when handling folks' money.

I'll let y'all know how things work out as this progresses.

It sounds like this is going to turn out O.K. It's amazing how many times I've heard companies use the computer, internet, email meltdown excuse. I'll keep watching this thread and I can stop by their shop if things don't progress as expected. Also, I didn't know if you had their local phone number (208) 664-3713. I just went through a similar transaction on Ebay so I know first hand how frustrating it can be.

So far, I have been spared any eBay problems. I'm quite active there, having had sold and bought. I usually do some homework, checking out the ratings of the seller, etc.

Yeah, I really have been careful in the evolution of internet commerce and this is honestly the first time that I have had an experience that bit me. These guys may be totally honest, but it sure is a lesson for me.

We should find out something by early next week (supposedly Monday). I'll sum everything up, then give a glowing report and summary, I hope. Thanks for the offer to drive by their location. Who knows, they may be an awesome shop with some interesting merchandise and install kits... And, the phone number. HEH. One can't hide. I found that number via the internet Yellow Pages.

I have been a longtime customer of J&D's, they have done about four of my past vehicles. Although they are a little aloof, they do work decent deals with you. They just installed my deck, a Pioneer 550 with MP3/WMA and a Rockwood 500w amp to drive my sub last Thursday morning. I have never had issues with their being dishonest, and their pricing is pretty good. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I live in Hayden Lake.
