Cancerous Rust Spread

Hey, so I drive a 2001 GMC Sierra that has spent most of its life in the rust belt. I currently live in Central Oregon and from what I can see rust is not a huge problem over here. My rocker panels, rear fenders, and corner panels are nearly destroyed by rust and I have some small surface level rust spots all over the truck. I was told that if I don't solve the issue my floorboards will eventually rot out. I cant really afford to fix the rocker panels and the corner post but I can cut out the rust from the fenders. Is there a way to completely stop the rust from getting any worse? I'll be alright as long as it does not continue to spread.

Basically- Your truck is terminal (based on your description).

The only way to save it at this point is with extensive surgery, hard work and $$$. Rust doesn't stop once it has started, unless it is removed. You can slow the rust down with oil spraying, but it won't stop the cancer growth. Even chemical rust converters only slow it down.

If the body is as you describe, the frame is very likely in bad shape.

The truck is 18 yrs old and doesn't owe anyone anything. At this point, it may be best to get what life you can from it and prepare for replacing it in a year or two.
