Fold A Cover

My wife wants to get the optional tonneau cover from Chevy which I believe is a Fold A Cover brand. I haven't seen anything pro or con on these and would appreciate any info or opinions on these covers.Fold-a-cover

I've had a Fold-A-Cover tonneau cover on my 2003 Z-71 (extended cab, short bed) since April. I swear I must have looked at every tonneau made before I bought the Fold-A-Cover. It was the perfect choice.

Basically, I wanted something I could get into from every position on the bed, I wanted it secure when closed and I wanted it water-tight.

The fiberglass covers look cool (I live about two miles from the Leer/Gem Top factory), but they only open about 24"-30" in the back and the front is useless (low part of the angle and the gas strut obsures entry. Being a local product, there are lots of Leer/Gem Top fiberglass tonneaus here in Oregon and several friends have had issues with the front hinges.

Personally, I disliked the vinyl tonneau covers. I write for firearms magazines and often carry expensive firearms. It looked like a guy with a knife could ruin my day. Most of them are attached with Velcro and they looked like a very temporary, unlockable product.

I finally found the Fold-A-Cover and it offered everything I need. After going through several exceedingly hard rain storms, one Montana microburst (60 mph winds, gusting to 92 mph and 6-inches of rain in a one hour period) and weekly washes, the Fold-A-Cpver has yet to leak a single drop of water. The security is about as good as it can get with keyed entry front and back and its design also locks the tailgate.

I bought mine for $649.00 at my local Chevy dealer and the Customer Relations guy helped me install it on the lot at no charge. I feel it was a fair price and if I bought a new truck tomorrow, my first addition to the rig would be a Fold-A-Cover tonneau.

Interestingly, I bought my rubber bed mat from the Leer/ Gem Top retail shop, near Clackamas, Oregon. The shops manager helped me install the mat. When he saw the Fold-A-Cover, asked me to demonstrate how it worked. After seeing it's utility, he said, "No $hit, I absolutely love it!" Then, he looked at every working piece from every angle. Without saying so, he recognized that the Fold-A-Cover was a superior tonneau cover.

It was the perfect choice and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I looked at those as well, ended up getting an Access Roll top tonneau. Very simple to use, look and stay tight all the time. They roll up out of the way when you need them to, and I have never had any issues with mine. Good luck.
