Paint matching grille, suggestions please!

Recommended Posts

Hey What’s going on? So I have an LTZ, which has a little too much chrome for my liking so I purchased the black out grille from GM. It looks good but I’m gonna have the body shop paint the thick bar of the grille satin steel to paint match the truck. Now do I leave the bow tie black or paint match it as well? Suggestions welcome!

The shop is also paint matching mirror caps too. Mirror caps and grille for $150 through my local GM dealer body shop, which I think is a great deal. Now what else can I drop off for them to paint... haha

I would leave the bow tie black. You don’t typically see them color matched. I would probably paint the bumper before the grill though, would look like a high country unless you like the chrome.

If you want to add something to the bow tie you can always pick up a vinyl sheet on amazon and do camo, American flag, etc... for like $20

Leave Black....

Yea man love your truck. Dropped off the grill, gonna leave the bow tie black. Slowly deleting all the chrome. Next I’ll wrap the window trim and bumpers.

Do you have a part number for the grill. I also have a LTZ and cannot stand all of the Chrome. Haven't been able to find the grill in black.

I forgot to update finished photos of the grille and mirror caps. Paint match came out spot on and was super cheap!

Looks amazing! Definitely too much chrome on these LTZ's. Any idea on how I could get similar results with the Camera system?

Cheap way, plasti dip it.

Wrap it in black vinyl or have a shop do it for you.

Expensive way, have a body shop paint it. They will have to scuff it up, lay paint/clear then I would take it to get Clear wrapped ASAP.

Where can I find/what is the part for the lower bumper that is color matched?

The lower Valance on my RST comes in black plastic.  I had to replace that part with the lower valance from a High Country and the Chrome piece that goes over it.   From there the chrome piece was painted white and immediately wrapped in Paint Protection Film and ceramic coated.  I don’t have the part numbers but any dealership parts department will help you out.

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
