Brake Squeak?!

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a low tolerance for rattles, ticks, and squeaks.

My truck developed a brief but annoying brake squeak say the final 1-2 feet before stopping. It happens about 80% of the time, all in stop-and-go traffic.

With that said, I took apart the front brakes, scrubbed and Brake-Kleened the pad clips, cleaned and lubed the pins, and applied CRC disc brake quiet to the backs of the pads. Torqued everything back up and the noise is still there!

Granted I did not do the rears, but it seems to me, at least sitting in the cab with my head out the window, the noise seems to come from the front.

Any ideas?

PS these are the front pads with 55k miles.

If those pads or oe metallic, it's just the nature of the beast. Sometimes one gets lucky and a good cleaning will get it fixed. I've never been that lucky. I always go for ceramic pads anymore. Ps. Decent amount of pad for 55k

I had a squeal/squeak in my brakes when I bought it at 95k. It drove me nuts, and only made noise during a certain braking pressure. Replaced rear pads and rotors with ceramics and it didn't change. Had the same amount of life in the fronts as you but was so sick of the noise I replaced them anyways. No rotors this time as they weren't warped, and the noise was gone. Since everything was done at the dealer throughout its life, good chance these were OEM metallic pads. For how cheap pads are, might as well try them out!
