Cam swap question

I have a 2015 CCSB that I would like to put  a low lift/high torque cam in.  I would like to keep VVT, AFM, & DoD.  Can the

#25-TSPLL212218 be swapped into this?  Just an MIT & MBRP rear exit dual exhaust are installed.

No, that is the wrong camshaft. That is for a much older engine, you must use a camshaft that is for the GEN V platform because the high pressure fuel pump is run of a specific camshaft lobe.

 

Toss the idea of keeping AFM/DoD with any aftermarket camshaft, the mechanical parts inside the engine will not like the extra lift/duration that an aftermarket camshaft will offer. You will need to do a AFM/DoD delete with the proper parts. The VVT can stay as they make camshafts that still use the VVT.

 

 

This is the correct camshaft to run. It is almost the same size as posted above and it will work with the factory stall torque converter. Going to a larger camshaft ideally would be going to an aftermarket converter to better suit the camshaft.

 CamGTP, thanks for the insight.  Figured I was looking for an apple in a pear tree.

I might try burning mid-grade next fill-up.  I have figured I will need to see about 2.7 improvement in mpg to justify $$/ gallon increase.  I drive 67 mile/day.  Prefer my truck over the wife’s Fusion hybrid, even though I’ll never match the mileage.

 I have heard a 2014-2019 Camaro stock camshaft, out of a 6.2(??) will swap in and can be found for less than $100.  With a tune, maybe 70hp more and retain VVT, AFM and DoD.  I have the 6 sp trans with 3.42 diff.

 I don’t have a shop so quick and cheap are in the equation.

What are the specs on the stock camaro camshaft though?

 

You need to remember that the camaro uses more displacement and is a much lighter vehicle so the camshaft profile is going to better suited for that.

 

The smaller cubic inch engine will take better to a specfic camshaft that is made for it. Mainly because the camshaft profile is going to keep all the bottom end torque where you want it and not shift the power curve way up high.

 

It's hard enough to gain 40-50whp with a proper truck camshaft so to me there is no real way a different stock camshaft will match that.

 

 

Getting a tune done on the truck will make a difference in how it feels, you can add a little bit of power but nothing world changing. Mainly it's in how the truck reacts and drives with the changes made. A good shop that takes their time or a local person with knowledge of the platform would be ideal over a canned tune. Depending on your driving style getting 19-21mpg avg is pretty good, maybe higher if you never see traffic or stop lights.

 

I've been tuning trucks for a while now and gaining mpg through adding power and tuning is tough to come by. Minimal gains are to be had. I can still get like 22-23mpg on the freeway with my AFM/DoD disabled when I try.

Is there a publication from GM that lists the 2015 L83 cam specs?  I have not found them on GM’s site, any Google search, forum or YouTube video.  Would my assumption the factory cam would have nearly .100 inch less valve lift be looking in the right tree?

    • Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!
    • I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.

    • Checked the pads today and there's plenty of meat on them. If the message keeps coming up, I'll just answer YES that the pads were replaced and wait for the squeal.
