Ropegun2k Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 Let me start off by saying I have 2-2018 sierras. One is a 3500 the other a 1500. A few weeks ago my 3500 started killing the truck upon putting the key in the ignition (using factory remote start). The display on the dash says “service theft deterrent system”. I tied the other original key but it didn’t seem to help. It’s also happened shortly after putting the truck in drive. I assumed something was just acting up in my 3500. But it is now also happening in my 1500 under the same circumstances. Factory keys/remotes. Skimmed a few threads with no results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

However speaking of magnets I have a suspicion of what the culprit may be. I installed a magnetic/wireless charging thingamajig on the vent next to the ignition on both of my trucks around the same time the problem started happening. I could see it being possible that either the wireless charging or magnet is throwing off some sort of reader in the steering column. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Your charger being that close to the ignition column could be introducing electromagnetic interference with the security chip inside your key and the NFC handshake it does with the truck. Ropegun2k Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 It appears that if my phone isn’t on it while starting things are fine. If I put my phone on it before I put the key in it gives me the finger. I’ll update if there’s any changes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
