Ticking noise ?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 sierra denali with the 6.2l . I have 120000km on it  . Just got it out of the body shop after hitting a deer. It was running fine when I brought it there 1 month ago  . As soon as I started it up at the auto body shop I noticed a loud ticking coming from the engine. I thought maybe low oil so I went to the gas station and checked. It was a little low but nothing to worry about. I topped it up anyways . But still 2 days later still has a bad ticking noise. Anyone know what it could be. Thanks for your help

Without it in front of my, I couldn't tell you anything.

Could be lifter tick, exhaust tick, loud injectors. All those make ticking sounds. A mechanics stethoscope or a really long screw driver to your ear is helpful is tracking down where sounds are coming from on the engine.

  • 3 weeks later...

My family has 4 GM 2017's (package deal at the dealer we couldn't pass up)

3 of the trucks have 5.3L with EcoTec flex Fuel.

My Silverado and Moms reg cab long box have the tick since new. Dad's (5.3l) and Sisters (V6) do not.

Would love to know why.
