ok, maybe not that loud but dang! usually after it sits overnight and i start it in the morning the next day the engine growls and for about 10 seconds or so until the rpms settle down the truck sounds diesel-ish. maybe its just the 8.1 breathing sounding like the giant it is. is this sound common...normal?

HEY BIG !..............Hope NO probs. with that new bad boy !

You prob. aren't used to that big block yet !

But yet again its getting colder and you might have that

dreaded cold start knock!

Its been dropping into the 30s up north here and my CSK

is back! But GM threw me a bone with that extended

warranty for free !

NO worries tho. cause its almost PLOW TIME! and gonna

WORK that puppy again this winter!..........geo :D

All you got to do is call and b*tch about how a 30+K truck shouldn't sound like that and they will offer it to you. They might make you take it to the Dealer to confirm it. Then they will send you a letter. Thats all. I hate it but it has not become a problem with performance yet. good luck. :D

JI.........Just go to your friendly GM dealer and have them write

up loud engine knocking noise when cold. Make sure you have

your 19.95 oil changes done at the dealer too...MOST important !

So they don't try "its not a GM oil filter BS". BUT your work

orders will PROVE that Mr. Dealer did the oil change !

After you complain to them NICELY...MANY times...The dealer

AND the GM 800 number and have the work orders to prove

it !

They will give up or buy your truck back! And/or give ya a FREE

extended engine and trans. warranty................

Play HARDBALL and get the 6yr./100k miles one!

Don't get me wrong...Mine is a great truck..and it WORKS HARD

towing, hauling, snowplowing. I am used to all vehicles having CSK

in the frozen mornings waaaay up in northern NY.........geo

sonjaab, csk caught me by surprise she only has a happy 4100 miles. its sounds different than my 5.3's csk. when i bought the truck i got mailed a few days later a 100,000 mile warranty free from GM.

GUYS.......My 6.0 had CSK from day 1 !

So did the other 3 2500s I test drove. Don't bother me anyway!

I work the s**t outta them towing, hauling, and snowplowing and

keep them 3 winters and trade them anyway!

My GM employee discount deal keeps me in a new truck at

a GREAT price! Right Bigg Pun!.........................geo

Ok, I know this is not really truck related but GM cars have had that same Knock for about 8 years or more. I have it on my car (3.1L) and it has 155,000 wonderful hard driven miles. I can say that if you are worried don't be, it is not a problem, I even live near a GM regional service rep who says it is not a problem and these engines have been tested well.

My .02 cents

Mine sounds like a diesel too in the morning (or even after sitting for a few hours. Just the nature of the beast. It goes away after a minute or so and I have suffered no performance loss.

-My LS1 does it some, it keeps getting stronger and stronger

-Numerous 60* V6's have done it (the 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 liter motors) and all have seen well over 100k.

-Our new Monte with the 3.8 does it and no loss of performance.

The key is, does it go away after a minute or two of running. If not, then there is an issue. If it does, there really isn't any problem. And I used to work in the service lanes, I've seen them all!
