Got the contract in the mail

i just the contract in the mail for gmpp major guard extended warranty from classic chevy in grapevine, texas. here's the terms.

3 year.

36,000 miles

cost is $1,065

deductible is $100

btw, i saw another post where the guy said he had major guard w/ no deductible. that would work for me, but........on this contract it says "deductible (required)", but there is also 4 boxes to check one out of and one of the boxes is $0. so now i'm confused. i am wondering if i could get major guard with no deductible and how much more it would cost me. and would that extra cost be worth not having a deductible?

My thinking on this both times I've gotten the extended is, if you're spending a grand on one, spend a few more bucks and get the 0 deduct. coverage. That way you have no worries if you're getting a repair done. The times I've used my AAA on the Rado, it's been items that were less than $100 or at least in that neighborhood.

So the extended warranty is a grand for an additional 36K? If so, then I don't think that's a very good price. On the Wife's 2001 Montero Sport we got an extended that gives us coverage until 100K for $1200.

c5vetteman, did you buy this extended warranty at the time of purchase or did you add it later like when it was getting close to the end of the original warranty? Does it cost more/less to add it later instead of at time of purchase?

Thanks

The price for the extended tends to go up the closer you get to the end of the factory coverage.

Sorry, it took so long to reply. I bought mine at about 33,000 miles and it did cost more later than at time of purchase. The reason I waited was because I wasn't sure if I would like the truck to keep it past 36K, but now I love the truck and wish I had got the warranty to 100K miles. When I get my new truck next year, I plan on buying the extended warranty up within 7 months or 8000 miles. A supporting dealer on the corvetteforum said that:

"Effective with plan sales on or after 10/1/03 GM now defines "NEW" as cars and trucks which were purchased less than 7 months ago and with less than 8000 miles on the odometer."

I bought the 5yr/75,000mi extended warranty when I purchased my truck and I think the cost was around the $1400 mark with no deductible. I am well into the extended warranty with almost 48,000 miles on my truck. I have not had to use it yet, but if something does happen I am sure it will more than pay for itself. Dealer labor is not cheap....

Well I only have like 1800 or so miles on mine now but would like to add one I think just in case. I know how expensive repairs on 4x4's can be so don't really want to have to eat one of those if I can avoid it.

I asked the dealer where I got my Sierra about the GMPP and he quoted me a price of $1795 for the 5yr/75K with 0 deductable. PLUS if my mileage goes over 7K it tacks on another $75. I guess maybe I should look at getting it from another dealer. Any suggestions?

Here is the info on where I got my plan from:

We are pleased to announce the following enhancements to the 2004 General Motors Protection Plan (GMPP) and Mechanical Repair Protection (MRP) programs effective October 1, 2003:

*General Motors Dealers can now sell GMPP on all makes and models

regardless of manufacturer.

*Price changes have been kept to a minimum with an average plan price

increase of only $10.00.

*Term and mileage of coverage will be calculated from the date of contract purchase and the current odometer mileage. This change should eliminate consumer confusion regarding term of coverage.

*Revised definition of new and used to more closely match status of the vehicle. New will be defined as any VSC sold on a vehicle that has been in service for up to 7 months 'and' has up to 8,000 miles on its odometer.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PRICE WILL BE $100 HIGHER IF THE PLAN IS PURCHASED WITHIN THE 7 MONTH/8000K PERIOD VERSUS PURCHASING THE SAME DAY AS VEHICLE DELIVERY.

*Used will be defined as any VSC sold on a vehicle that has been in service for more than 7 months 'or' has more than 8,000 miles on its odometer.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PRICE CHANGES DEPENDING UPON THE PRESENT ODOMETER READING ON USED VEHICLES. THE PRICE IS HIGHER AS YOUR ODOMETER READING INCREASES:

THE MILEAGE BREAKS ARE:

0-15000 MILES, 15001-30000 MILES, 30001-36000 MILES

WE WILL MATCH ANY OTHER GM DEALERS PRICE ON THE GMPP, MAJORGUARD!! AND FURTHER, THERE IS NO SALES TAX IN MONTANA!!

Thanks for all the info about it, a LOT more than my dealer bothered to even tell me... I'll send this guy an email and see what he says it will cost through him.

Thanks Again
