manytranny Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Hello I just changed the waterpump on a 95 Suburban. Drained all the coolant from the lower radoator hose. Im not sure how much is out, but quite a bit drained. Anyway, Ive done all the work, and now I am not sure exactly what kind of coolant to put back in. Is it mandatory to replace it with the Pink stuff? (I am assuming that is dexcool) Any thoughts? Ive got a bunch of the green stuff, but if I need to get dexcool, Ill do it... Thanks...
Ben Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Recommend dumping DeathCool, flush, flush, flush DeathCool out and replace with Green. Change thermostat and drill a 1/8" dia hole in the new stat's flange.
manytranny Posted October 28, 2003 Author Posted October 28, 2003 If I flush the radiator out, will that be good enough? I dont know how/want to flush the block. I had it replaced a while ago, and it is red/pink in color. Is that Dexcool? I have a generic type called Pro-line. Is that alright?
asepgrad98 Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 if it had Dexcool originally i suggest you put it back in(should be a sticker underhood). If you put green stuff it will be rated at 2 years not 5.
SilveradoWV Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 I replaced the DexCool with the green stuff in my Dads S10. I personally dont like Dexcool cuz it looks terrible after a couple years, so there is no way I would let it go the length they suggest. I am going to change it once a year or so anyway, why not put the green! I still have the Dex in my Silverado but will change it when it before the suggested time!, probably to the Green!
